Breeding
With the breeding season well under way Weston Warmbloods has been busier than ever with foals running about the place and mares coming and going from stud. Super de Luxe has had an outstanding filly foal by Diamant de Semilly and is now in foal to Eurocommerce Berlin. Balou Babe has also had a superb quality filly foal by Zip Phin and is now hopefully in foal also to Eurocommerce Berlin. Poeme de France who has been leased by Weston Warmbloods from Judy Ross has just tested in foal to Quidam de Revel which is very exciting as this mare is of the same mother line as the Stallion Quattro B. Graine de Quito who is a relatively new addition to the stud has just been tested in foal to Zip Phin. Balou Bless an offspring of Super de Luxe is hopefully in foal to Cornet Obolensky and last but not least Shakira who is a very exciting mare purchased from Germany at Christmas by Stakkato out of a Lord Liberty G Mare is hopefully in foal to Zip Phin. All being well we hope to have 7 foals on the ground this time next year.
All of the foal’s produced by Zip Phin this year are proving to be of outstanding quality regardless of the mare, they are long legged and have beautiful heads. They have all inherited Zip Phin’s bold outlook on life and affectionate nature. Zip Phin is due back from Stud later this month where he has been standing since March so we are very much looking forward to getting him out to some show’s for the tail end of the season.
Competition
The show season is keeping me busy as ever when I can escape from the office! My most exciting horse of the moment has to be Tangelina who has the heart of a lion and just keeps jumping double clears. She has been placed in pretty much every class she has jumped in this year including her Discovery Regional Finals and Newcomer Second Rounds and has qualified for several Young Horse Final’s to be held in August. She is only 6 and I don’t want to push her but she really is a little winner and is jumping nicely around 1.30 classes now. Her half brother Tangelos also 6 years old who was outstanding as a 5 year old has just recently returned to competition following a minor leg injury and he will be aimed at various Young Horse classes and getting his Foxhunter double clears for 2009. Another exciting prospect is Zilexa who is by Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve out of a Calvados mare, she was purchased at Christmas and broken in February. She is proving to be uncannily like her half sister and half brother Tangelina and Tangelos being bold and ultra careful, having been to just 2 shows she is already jumping clears in British Novice but will not do too much this year as she still has a lot of maturing to do. On a sadder note “Its Mine” aka Robbie is going into semi-retirement, it has been a very difficult decision as he still loves his jumping but he is 14 years old now and needs to start taking his competition career a little bit easier. He will still go to the odd show when the going is good and will do a lot more stud work next year as it will no longer interfere with his competitions.
